Gabriela Cleveston Gelain is a PhD student at the graduate program in communication and consumer practices (PPGCOM ESPM, Brazil) in São Paulo and was a volunteer on the Girls Rock Camp Porto Alegre (2016-2018) where she developed fanzine workshops. She is a researcher at Juvenália research group that focuses on communication dynamics in gender musical artivisms in Brazil, coordinated by Rose de Melo Rocha. Currently she has been researching artistic and aesthetic politicities related to a LGBTQIA+ poetry slam collective in São Paulo. In her dissertation she studied the memory and updates of Riot Grrrl movement in Brazil and published the articles Punk Fairytale: Popular Music, Media, and the (Re)Production of Gender (Emerald Insight, 2018), Collants, Correntes e Batons: Género e Diferença na cultura punk em Portugal e no Brasil (Lectora, 2017) both with the sociologist Paula Guerra (Kismif Conference). She also has a chapter in the forthcoming edited book of Global Punk series (Intellect Books, 2021) entitled Brazilian Riot Grrrls: History, Reflections and feminist empowerment in Girls Rock Camps (with Mike Dines). She has been a member of PSN Brazil since 2020. In her spare time, she photographs Coletivo Sujeito Oculto. Her interest areas are: Urban Youth Cultures, Gender and Cultural Consumption.
