Selin Yagci
Selin Yagci is a Doctoral Researcher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), in the Society, Technology and Culture program. Born and raised in Ankara, Selin received her BA in economics from the Middle East Technical University, and her MA in cinema and TV studies from Kadir Has University, Istanbul where she wrote her master’s thesis on ontology of cinematic image and ghost films. After a semester in Humboldt University of Berlin in the European Ethnology department during her masters, she became interested in ethnographic works and started to write her own memories of the punk scene in Ankara in the 2000s. Selin’s research focuses on imaginaries of youth and narratives over space, with a certain interest in historical and spatial turn in punk studies. She is working on her research on tracing the urban past of the lost or less visible punk places in different cities, with a focus on Madrid and Ankara, yet, including stories from different cities of Turkey and Spain such as Barcelona and Istanbul. She is currently based in Madrid for her fieldwork. Among her interests, punk and philosophy has a unique place. In her texts, she tries to philosophize the concept of scene to reconsider some of the issues that have been taken for granted in the brief but rich history of punk scholarship and subcultural studies. She also likes to explore more on the fictions of punk in film and literature.
