Ko Kawakami

Kounosuke Kawakami is a researcher, curator, and currently Associate Professor at the Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts. 

His research and curatorial approach focuses on: artists or collective practices; re-interpreting historical contexts into the contemporary via the exhibition or punk format; and looking at artists who question current political and social conditions and perceptions through art or punk. 

He is the author of The Genealogy of Punk (Syoshikankanbo) and co-author of Anarchism as Thought (Ibunsya).

His research and curatorial approach focuses on artists and/or collective practice, and his curated exhibitions include: Punk! The Revolution of Everyday Life (2021-2024); Bedtime for Democracy (2022); Guerrilla Girls, Reinventing the 'F' Word - Feminism! (2020, 2023); Ho Rui An, Solar: A Meltdown (2020); Anton Vidokle, Russian Cosmism: Trilogy (2019); Thomas Hirschhorn & Santiago Sierra, Radical Democracy (2016); and The Third Entity (2015) with Mikhail Karikis, Héctor Zamora, Taka Atsugi, Toki Okamoto.
