Josep Lluís “Pep” Lancina is an anthropologist and secondary school teacher. He gained his Ph.D. with his work entitled “Patrones de movimiento corporal en la performance musical. Una aproximación antropológica a las escenas barcelonesas de punk, hardcore e improvisación libre” at Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 2017. In his research, the body movement and the gestural language of both musicians and public attending live concerts in Barcelona of genres such as punk, hardcore, are studied. Regarding education, he holds an M.Ed. In Secondary School Teaching from URV and has been trained as a live sound technician. Additionally, “Pep” worked as a lecturer of anthropology of arts at the Universitat de Barcelona, and he has written several articles on jazz and punk local scenes, as well as the importance of the scenario locations - squats, concert halls, bars, etc. He was also an editor of Plasma fanzine (1982-1986) and executive producer of the independent label Macaco Records (1991-1996). Currently, Pep is responsible for the coordination of the field-group of Ethnomusicology of the Institut Català d'Antropologia (ICA) and member of the Research Group in Gender, Identity and Diversity of the UB (GENI-UB). He also is a member of SIBE, Society of Ethnomusicology. To conclude, his research is mainly focused on the relationships between the body movement and music, and on local music scenes. Finally, he is currently carrying out studies on rural punk scenes.
