Punk, Gender and Ageing: Just Typical Girls
Punk has traditionally been theorised within cultural studies and sociology as a male-dominated subculture within which women are marginalized. In line with feminist research values and epistemologies, Punk, Gender and Ageing gives voice to a previously marginalised sample: ageing punk women. This is the first book to focus solely on the experiences of older punk women, going beyond recent scholarship on post-youth subcultural involvement which has demonstrated a limited exploration of the interplay between age, gender and subculture.
Contemporary Punk Rock Communities: Scenes of Inclusion and Dedication
As a music scene, punk rock faces an unfortunate stereotype which often assumes an overwhelming presence of aggression and indifference. Using interviews and personal experience, Ellen M. Bernhard argues that contemporary punk scenes are more than just music and mohawks – they operate as sites of autonomous practice and networked communities where a tireless pursuit for social action is amplified by the platforms and forces that exist within the scene today.
Punk & Post-Punk journal update 10 May 2020
At the beginning of 2020, Punk & Post-Punk was selected by our publisher, Intellect, to trial a new Fast Track system for online publishing of articles in advance of final inclusion in an issue of the journal. The first four Fast Track articles were published online in February 2020, and are due to be included in the forthcoming issue 9.2 (June 2020)
